To be honest it doesn't matter. I have mine under a tree and we have plenty of people with them in their sheds. I suppose it would do no harm to have it in full sun but as it is fully sealed and the outer is so thick it is still fine if it was sat out in the rain. I know this is probably not a great answer but we have no science behind performance in sun or shade
