Hi there, thank you for your question. This timer is frost proof in normal conditions but the valve unit may be damaged by prolonged temperatures below freezing. I have been using one of these timers for many years now in my polytunnel and have never had an issue with it, I don't drain the system in winter. If you live in an area with hard winters, this may not be the case and I would advise draining. Unlike most domestic timers, the Baccara unit timer and valve are separate parts and not interconnected so it is very rare to have freezing or leaking issues.
