Hi there, thank you for your question. The thermostat probe wire is approx 1m long, the end is best placed in or on the surface of the compost in your tray or pot. If placed in the sand, it will give the sand rather than the compost temp. The plug socket lead is also 1m so needs to be relatively close to a socket or power source. You will need the 25m cable for a 6ft x 3ft bench.
