Hi there, thank you for your question. The starter kit is so called because all the components are included, it should be called a 'ready to go' kit I guess. You do nit need to add additional components down the line but be aware this is a hobby style kit that won't be suitable for exposed locations. If you are in a windy spot, I would recommend our heavy duty fruit cage kits.
