Hi there
If you are planting a new hedge, it is a good idea to use a fertilizer with plenty of phosphorous (e.g. blood, fish & bone) as it promoted root development and will help the new hedge get established quickly. For an established hedge, a mulch of good garden compost (or Envirogrind) around the roots every second season will be sufficient.
